Statement

While I recently graduated with my BFA in Painting with a minor in Drawing, I once had no previous desire to pursue a degree in painting. Drawing and illustration had been my primary methods for creativity. The medium of oil paint only started to grow on me after I learned to mix paint, and lots of it, at the Bark Park Mural Service Learning class I was apart of in the fall of 2016. From then on I pursued the traditional painting style of training that Buffalo State has to offer. Throughout the past five years, my work has varied from representational to abstract. Much of my inspiration in style comes from contemporary expressionism. The varieties of texture and color speak to me more than creating realism related works. While studying at Buffalo State I have been given a multitude of opportunities to explore what the creative world has to offer. From traveling Europe with the Siena Program to working in the Iron Pour, and joining a Service Learning class, I have learned to appreciate all my city has to offer. This exhibit is an accumulation of my lessons and life experiences across the artistic spectrum. What I learn in my scholarly assignments and what I attempt to portray in my personal work is a continual process. Many methods have been learned and unlearned through these transformations of my life. While my personal style has slowly grown along with my traditional training, I continue to aim for the things I can conceive before bigger ideas begin to form.
